Apple has released an emergency patch for a potential zero-day bug. The security patch says for Macs running Monterey and iDevices running version 15, there is a bug that affects WebKit, the web engine that powers Safari and other webviews in the operating systems. Apple says that, “Processing maliciously crafted web content may lead to arbitrary code execution. Apple is aware of a report that this issue may have been actively exploited.” Since this seems to be actively being used, it’s highly recommended that you upgrade your devices immediately.
It’s interesting that this patch does not affect earlier versions of Mac OS or tvOS. And while WatchOS is being updated, the security vulnerability isn’t listed among the fixes (or specifically what is being fixed for that matter). One last note that iPhones using a braille display may have encountered a bug where they would stop working, and this update fixes it.
Regardles, update now.
