All good things must come to an end. Starting July 1st, 2021 purchasing a new iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, or Mac will now only get you 3 months free of Apple TV+ instead of the 1 year free that is has been up until now.
This was actually the original offer, similar to Apple Music. However it wasn’t long after launch that a certain pandemic hit the scene messing up a number of world affairs. On a more serious note between nearly all of the media industry hitting road blocks in acquiring and making content at the same time that many people were either stuck at home needing it or just trying to find escapes from all the drama that came with it, it would have been really difficult for many people to continue justifying paying for a new streaming service with only untested originals, no back-catalog, and potentially delays in getting new content. And that’s not even counting the number of people who needed to reel in their spending out of concerns for their budgets and their job prospects.
So Apple made the, arguably smart, call to extend the free trial to a year instead of 3 months. I think it paid off, particularly since Ted Lasso and the Morning Show seem to have hit an audience (I’m personally a fan of the Snoopy Show). But now that more people are getting vaccinated and things seem to be going back to normal, it seems Apple has decided to sunset their generous free trial and go back to their original one. So if you were thinking about buying a new Apple product and Apple TV+ interests you, now might be the time to go ahead and push that buy button.
